SIQUIJOR: THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

The province of Siquijor is very mystical, so it’s highly recommended for a solo-backpacker like me. It is an island province that bears a lot of gorgeous tourist destinations. At the end of the day, you will be under the mystical spell of its beauty. By the way, the province is known as the “Esla del Fuego” or the “island of fire” because of the mystical fireflies. According to locals, if you see luminous lights, magic is taking place. They are prominent in shamanism and witchcraft.

Tourist spots, where to stay and how to get to Siquijor:

Siquijor tourist spots

HOW TO GET HERE: My solo-backpacking started in Negros Oriental. From Dumaguete City port, near the boulevard, I took a fast-craft ferry. Other airports are in Cebu and Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

TOURIST DESTINATIONS: The best way to reach the top tourist attractions is via habal-habal. It is highly recommended because the roads are concrete and the wind is relaxing. Kuya Leo is my habal driver/tour guide. He was referred to me by a friend.

WHERE TO STAY: Upon my arrival, the province was hit by a thunderstorm. Swerteng swerte sa first day diba? Before we start, I checked in at Tori’s Backpacker’s Paradise. Contact: 09663296863. I chose the cheapest room which is a dormitory type and left some of my stuff inside the provided locker. When the weather settled, we started.

FIRST TOURIST ATTRACTIONS: Century, Old Balete Tree, Lazi Convent, Lazi Church.

Siquijor beach resorts

Cambugahay Falls

CAMBUGAHAY FALLS – a 3-tiered waterfall with a free-flowing cool and crystal clear waters surrounded by relaxing greens. What you can do: try the “tarzan swing,” get a water massage, stand on a water raft, and many more.

SALAGDOONG BEACH is the top beach destination. It has crystal clear waters with fine white sand shoreline but there are sharp stones. What to do: swim, eat, drink or try cliff jumping. Restaurants, rooms and toilet and baths are available here. Then, Guiwanon Spring Park Resort.

The SIQUIJOR CHURCH was our last destination. This church greets all visitors as it is situated near the port. It was established in 1783 by secular priests and was initially built using coral stones and cogon grass for roofing.

After the tiring expedition, Kuya Leo dropped me off at Tori’s Backpackers Paradise. Tidy up and enjoyed the serene ambiance of the resort. Had my dinner at Tori’s restaurant.
